Our Impact

One Can Help is great in helping families and individuals obtain services and/or items they are not able to obtain through other means. Recently, I received financial assistance so that an at-risk youth could join an afterschool sports team (and get the sports equipment he needed to do so). This will help him stay out of trouble and improve his relationship with his family. Also, it will hopefully deter any need for further court involvement.”

Yesterday was absolutely amazing. The family was so excited to move out of the shelter, I never saw them smile so much! Thank you for paying for the mattresses and UHaul. You made this possible.”

Attorney for Mom

OCH helped change this family’s life. First I applied for a bus pass so mom could attend therapy. Later I applied for emergency rent because mom was remaining sober and her mental health issues were improving. These funds helped her re-negotiate a payment plan and avoid homelessness. That would have completely destabilized her! And recently, I applied for a laptop so mom could continue therapy online in the pandemic—and apply to nursing school! We had court this morning. There is no longer going to be a parental termination trial. Instead the child is in the process of returning home. Everyone is thrilled! One Can Help assistance helped make this possible.”

One Can Help reaches a population that cannot financially access the resources requested and have failed the screening levels for other funding sources. It is a last effort for social services workers to ease the barriers their low income and chronic families face. And in so doing to provides a much needed source of hope for our families”.

Social Worker

I view One Can Help as a go-to resource for reasonable request for funding or supplying equipment across the spectrum for our clients—whether it be computers or financial assistance for dance classes, daycare, MBTA passes, training. Our clients often do not have other options and simply will go without.”

Attorney Barbara Indech

The difference between success and continued struggle is often a small need that can’t be found anywhere: a bus path so a teen can get a job, a heating bill for a family in crisis or summer camp fees for at-risk kids. These things are minimal but the impact is enormous. Our clients benefit in so many ways from this assistance and on a personal note this helps me be a better social worker to my clients. I truly don’t know what I’d do without them and I am forever grateful.”

DCF social worker

One Can Help has been a miracle program. No other program has made it so easy to access funds, resources and supports for families. Particularly during this challenging season, I have been encouraged to tell my clients that there’s an organization with the capacity to help. As a result of this assistance, my client and her 4 children have been able to purchase food and cleaning supplies for their home. This has mattered immensely as my client is immune-compromised and needs to ensure that her home is clean and safe for herself and her children. She has also been able to purchase a few board games and toys for her younger children in an attempt to keep them occupied and entertained while … Read more

Thank you for helping my client pay for daycare. The father of her child had to leave the home, and she had no one to look after her son while she was at work during the day. DCF put her on a wait list for daycare but it would take a few weeks to come through. You responded very quickly and were able to cover a couple of weeks. Thanks to your intervention, my client was able to keep her job and continue caring for her son.”

Attorney Lily Lockhart

One Can Help is the only funding source that actually efficiently addresses what we need as juvenile lawyers for our clients. There are not endless amounts of hoops to jump through to get what they need. My client with three children desperately needed a washer and dryer to keep her newly reunified children’s clothes clean—One Can Help came through and this just boosted my clients self confidence immensely. Another one of my clients needed technology for learning games and to do virtual meetings with her preschool—One Can Help provided a kindle fire for her to do so.

Thank you for the train passes. This made is possible for me to visit my daughter in a psychiatric facility and do family counseling together, and now she is coming back home! This could not have happened without the train passes!”
