Our Impact

OCH helped change this family’s life. First I applied for a bus pass so mom could attend therapy. Later I applied for emergency rent because mom was remaining sober and her mental health issues were improving. These funds helped her re-negotiate a payment plan and avoid homelessness. That would have completely destabilized her! And recently, I applied for a laptop so mom could continue therapy online in the pandemic—and apply to nursing school! We had court this morning. There is no longer going to be a parental termination trial. Instead the child is in the process of returning home. Everyone is thrilled! One Can Help assistance helped make this possible.”

Juvenile court attorney

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your donation of funds to help me bridge the gap with my eldest son who is living in a different part of the state. He will be transitioning home soon, and helping me secure a vehicle and sustain my license is going to be so helpful in keeping all the service in place to make this transition go smoothly. I am a single mom of 3 boys and my struggles have been often. I am so thankful for your agency for helping alleviate some of them.”

Thank you for helping my client pay for daycare. The father of her child had to leave the home, and she had no one to look after her son while she was at work during the day. DCF put her on a wait list for daycare but it would take a few weeks to come through. You responded very quickly and were able to cover a couple of weeks. Thanks to your intervention, my client was able to keep her job and continue caring for her son.”

Attorney Lily Lockhart

Thank you so much for helping my teen client. The look on my client’s face was absolutely priceless when I told him about the T-pass and the clothes he had needed. He feels energized to be able to job hunt easier, attend appointments and do his community service!”

Attorney

Paying for camp made it possible for a 9 year old to stay with his mom. Without camp funds, mom would not have been able to work. That which would have jeopardized her housing and reunification plan. The case will be dismissed on next court date as a result. This assistance made such a difference!”

Attorney

Thank you for the train passes. This made is possible for me to visit my daughter in a psychiatric facility and do family counseling together, and now she is coming back home! This could not have happened without the train passes!”

A Mother

Sometimes our clients are one step from a breakdown or a relapse, over no money for rent, food, etc. And One Can Help brings them back from the brink. No other nonprofit provides assistance like this. Long term, this saves the Commonwealth money because the court doesn’t have to stay involved with the family that truly just needs a little extra assistance. This just makes SO MUCH SENSE and fills so many gaps our clients need to reach their potential.”

Juvenile court attorney

Yesterday was absolutely amazing. The family was so excited to move out of the shelter, I never saw them smile so much! Thank you for paying for the mattresses and UHaul. You made this possible.”

Attorney for Mom

One Can Help is great in helping families and individuals obtain services and/or items they are not able to obtain through other means. Recently, I received financial assistance so that an at-risk youth could join an afterschool sports team (and get the sports equipment he needed to do so). This will help him stay out of trouble and improve his relationship with his family. Also, it will hopefully deter any need for further court involvement.”

Social Worker

I can’t even begin to explain how valuable and truly essential the support that One Can Help provides is to our clients. I’ve been moved to tears by their generosity and unfailing support. I am a social worker and work with youths and families impacted by the court system. So many times the difference between success and continued struggle for these children and families is a small financial burden that cannot be met anywhere else. I’m talking simple things—like $30 for a bus pass for a teen to get to a first job, payment to a family’s electric bill to keep the lights on during a time of need, summer camp fees, cost of a moving truck rental to pick up furniture donated from an agency, clothe… Read more
