Mission and Vision

Mission

One Can Help is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. We provide the missing resources at-risk and foster children urgently need to improve their lives which are not available elsewhere.

Vision

Our mission is to address the impact of poverty on children and families in the juvenile court system. Providing the individualized missing resources that are needed can ignite life changing impact for a largely underserved and mostly invisible population.

One Can Help was created by juvenile court attorneys and social workers who saw that there was a lack of available resources and wanted to find a way to help their underresourced children have the chance to overcome poverty barriers preventing progress and success.

Our Commitment

  • Careful screening by seasoned professionals ensures the need is real, urgent and that no other resources are available;
  • A responsible process of distributing assistance to those in crisis via trusted court professionals; means that no money is ever provided directly to our beneficiaries;
  • Accountability to ensure that funds are spent as intended and impact is assessed;
  • Our innovative approach ensures that funds are optimized to support children and families in need, quickly, effectively and with as little administrative overhead as possible.

One Can Help is now providing assistance across Massachusetts.

Our Impact

People don’t understand how my life could have changed so drastically after I became sick and lost my job. I am not sure that I would have understood it either before this happened to me. Now I understand perfectly well that illness, homelessness, and personal tragedy can happen to anyone. I just want to sincerely express my gratitude for all the help your organization has provided for me and my family.

T

I view One Can Help as a go-to resource for reasonable request for funding or supplying equipment across the spectrum for our clients—whether it be computers or financial assistance for dance classes, daycare, MBTA passes, training. Our clients often do not have other options and simply will go without.

Attorney Barbara Indech

Thank you for helping my client pay for daycare. The father of her child had to leave the home, and she had no one to look after her son while she was at work during the day. DCF put her on a wait list for daycare but it would take a few weeks to come through. You responded very quickly and were able to cover a couple of weeks. Thanks to your intervention, my client was able to keep her job and continue caring for her son.

Attorney Lily Lockhart

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your donation of funds to help me bridge the gap with my eldest son who is living in a different part of the state. He will be transitioning home soon, and helping me secure a vehicle and sustain my license is going to be so helpful in keeping all the service in place to make this transition go smoothly. I am a single mom of 3 boys and my struggles have been often. I am so thankful for your agency for helping alleviate some of them.

J.C.

Thank you so much for your generous donation of 2 months T-passes for my client. To some this may be a small gesture, but for my client, this was a critical need. She was able to visit her daughter in foster care, attend court dates, and get to school without worry about where the money to do so was coming from. Additionally, it helped her legal case immensely; she was seen as responsible and self-sufficient, and was reported to the court favorably by her DCF social worker.

Cristina Martin, LCSW

For the past five months it has been very difficult for me and my sons because they had outgrown their clothes, even the hand-me-downs, and had very little to wear to school. One day they had to miss school because the washer broke down and they had nothing to wear. The winter clothing that was donated really helped. It feels good to send my boys to school looking sharp!

Mom of Four

Thank you for allowing my 12-year-old son the chance to play football this fall. He is really excited! It has been his dream and his friends were going to play without him if he could not go with them. This gift a chance for him to stay active and engage in something positive. He does not have a dad, so I think it is good to be around caring men who he can learn from.

C's Mom

The back rent you granted my client didn’t just help her avoid homelessness, it helped her retain her home, provide a safe environment to transition her son into, and put her life back on track to continued success and dismissal of the care and protection case. With One Can Help, poor families can recover from life’s unexpected financial challenges without losing everything.
